Dive Updates: 7/3 and beyond

We are almost half way through the season and we still have ALOT going on. Quick note: NO PRACTICE TOMORROW!!! This will be a longer email with a lot of information. All of these emails are posted on our Swimtopia site so you can go back and reread them if necessary. Alright buckle up, grab something to nibble on, this is a novel....

WEDNESDAY's dive meet:

  • Yup you read that right. The meet is WEDNESDAY so we can all celebrate the food and fun that the pool has planned for the 4th. Meet sheets will be signed Wednesday morning. Please check in with your divers to see if they are legal. We have had some kids make some REALLY great progress and they might surprise you!! Please get to Stratford by 4:50 so we can promptly take the boards at 5.
  • Here is the info from Stratford: 4:00 Stratford Warm-Up 5:00 Rutherford Warm-Up 5:30 Volunteer Check-in 5:30 Signed dive sheets due to the table 5:45 Meet sheet confirmation (referee) 5:45 Freshman Girls bounce 6:00 Anthem/Meet Begins We have secured two judges (one will also ref), and three table workers. Please let your judges and table workers know the schedule so they are available to check in with the ref and meet secretary before the meet begins. We will have a concession stand with hotdogs and other usual snack bar offerings. Our pool will close for swimming at 5:30. I will be at the pool when you and your team arrive at 5PM, and will be happy to help you get settled in your team area.

Flip/Dry Land Practice:

  • We will be having a dryland practice THIS Thursday 3-4pm at my house. We have a large trampoline and will be working on front/back flips and approahes/hurdles. This practice is geared towards the kids who don't have these dives/skills. I will have some popsicles and maybe some fun water activities to keep everyone busy. My address is 9304 Briarwood Place. Please send me a message if your kiddo can make it.

Cheryl out of town July 11-21...Don't worry Allie Calderon is going to take over for me and this should be seamless on your end..That being said we need to think about the following.....:

  • I will be out of town starting the 11th so I am trying to tie up loose ends as we head into the end of the season.  I won't be completely unreachable but Alaska is a little behind in the timezone department. If your diver was legal in previous meets please consider signing up to work the table/judge. Please sign-up early so we don't have to track people down.
  • CrackerJack (July 16th): This is the time to shine for all of our divers who haven't been able to participate in a meet or who haven't placed in a meet. This is a super fun meet and its close! We will need volunteers to help with taking the burden off of the home pool so please consider volunteering. Let Julia/Heather know if your diver can participate. CrackerJack divers can NOT participate in Divisionals. If someone wants to bring our team tent to the meet that would great!
  • Divisonals (July 23rd): If your diver has placed 1-3 in a meet, we want to see them at Divisionals. If you aren't available for Divisionals please let us know and you can participate in Crackerjack. Divisionals is also scored much tougher than a regular meet so it isn't the place for a novice diver. We will also need to provide volunteers to run table/judge there as well. Those divers who place 1st or 2nd in Divisionals move on to Allstars!!
  • Banquet/Progressive Dinner/Pep Rallies aren't just for swimmers but for us divers as well. So be on the lookout for information about those events from Mr Brown.
  • Extra dive video and gathering: the coaches have been videoing the kids to make our own video. If you have any videos or pics of your kids diving please let me know. We are going to set up a folder so we can capture it all. If anyone is a master photographer let me know as well. Toma is AMAZING but he is super busy and can't make it to everything. We will meet the first weekend in August (tentatively) to view our dive video, so stay tuned for more info!
  • I would love for the dive team to be represented in the Lip Sync battle (July 14th) so even if your kids are apart of a group with swim kids I would love to see them get a second group of divers. There are no limits to how many groups you can be apart of.
  • End of season gift for the coaches: I will be collecting money for the coaches end of year gift this week. But I would LOVE to find a parent volunteer who is at the pool that can collect the $$ while I am gone. If you can help let me know. Otherwise, I am here till Monday July 10th afternoon for cash.

Important Dates to Remember:

Looking ahead. . . . next week is BUSY with Picture Day (rescheduled Monday, July 10), King's Dominion (July 12), Progressive Dinner (July 13 for older kids ONLY), & Lip Sync Pep Rally (July 14). CrackerJack (July 16th @Ravensworth pool), Divisionals (July 23rd @Stratford)

Whew, that was a lot. I am sure I missed something and you will see another email soon. As always please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
