Dive: Summer Days are Here!
June 18th
School’s out for summer!!! I am so excited for the summer and FINALLY being able to be under the pavilion for swim and dive practices. Julia, Heather, and myself are super excited for this season and showing our new division that we are here to have fun and win!
- I will be away from July 10-22. During this time Allie Calderon will be heading the helm. Please sign up early for jobs, we will have our home meets at this time and we need the most volunteers during this time. Please, PLEASE, please, don’t make her ask for volunteers.
- Thoughts for the future, Chris Wade is our current referee. He is done after this year. We will NEED a referee or we can not have home meets. It would be great if someone could shadow him to take over next year. This is the ONLY job that requires training for dive. It is really important job but it isn’t complicated.
These are the most important future items and things to think of and day to day items for the next couple of weeks. This will be mostly “normal” for returning families. For new families, welcome to the dive FUN!!!!!
- Freshman and Junior divers: 9 am practice slot; Intermediate and Senior: 10 am practice slot (These times may change for individual divers based on numbers)
- Dive lines and mat work: our coaches try a variety of methods to keep divers engaged to work on their core conditioning (also something they can do at home), to work on their fundamentals, and then put it all together off the board. Some divers may spend more time on the mats off the side of the pool. Don’t worry it will come together.
- Dive is not JUST physical but mental. Sometimes a diver can physically do something but mentally there is a block. Our coaches will try everything to get the kids to try their dives. Ultimately, it is up to the diver. We have found that having a parent under the pavilion helps with confidence. My own kids have dealt with issues around not doing certain dives and I am not above bribing with snack shack ‘stuff’.
- Our coaches try their best to keep the boards moving, it is up to the diver to maintain their position in line and keep going off the board.
- A meets are for divers who have all of their legal dives. For freshman divers(10 and under), that means a front dive, back dive, and front jump (or other optional) without assistance. We do have a B meet scheduled and anyone who doesn’t qualify for an A meet is HIGHLY encouraged to do the B meet.
- After Freshman, you can no longer do a front jump as your optional
- Juniors (11-12yrs) need 4 dives, Intermediates (13-14yrs) need 5, Seniors (15-18yrs) need 6.
- Our first meet is THIS Tuesday. The coaches will be working with the divers to be legal. If you are unsure if your diver is legal please ask them if they can complete their number of dive. If they are not legal we will try and get them there please ask me if your diver is legal.
- Finally, if you haven’t already signup for Remind. Text@rfddive to 81010. This is how we will communicate last minute changes and weather updates. I won’t always have access to email so signup for Remind. If your kid has a phone sign them up as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
