First week

We are almost done with our first full week of summer practices. The kids are making amazing progress, Coach Julia and Coach Heather are loving seeing these divers grow. We have a lot of new dive families and I wanted to share some important meet info, expectations, etc.

General:

  • We have pictures and pancake breakfast tomorrow. This includes dive and we want everyone here at 7:30. The kids will have pictures taken, practice, and then participate in the pancake breakfast. If you don't have a team suit that's fine, please have your diver wear a blue bathing suit.
  • We still need soda and water donations. Both swim and dive are asked to contribute to the snack shack. These drinks are sold at all meets and during normal pool hours. If the pool has to buy drinks the prices will go up. When picking your drinks think what the kids would drink, they are our main customers.

Practices:

  • Please remind your divers that when they are in line they should be paying attention, if every diver 'asks what should I do' it slows the line down considerably.
  • Divers at all age levels have required dives. For all the new families, required dives for freshman are front dive and back dive and then an optional. Most freshman divers will choose a front jump as their optional. The higher degree of difficulty the more likely they will place. As a result, we are hoping by the end of this season we hope that freshman will be working towards/perform a front flip. Once they are Juniors the front jump is no longer an allowed optional.
  • Our goals for this summer is for all divers to have a hurdle (approach), freshman to be working on a front flip, and everyone start working on an additional optional.

Meets:

  • Those divers that have the necessary amount of legal dives will be allowed to participate in meets. If a diver needs a coach's help to complete a dive, this unfortunately is not a legal dive.
  • All divers are asked to stay for the entire meet to cheer on the older kids.
  • Divers will be signing their meet sheets Monday at Practices, if they have not signed before the meet or made arrangements with the coaches they can not participate in the meet.

Volunteers:

  • We NEED volunteers for all meets, away meets we supply fewer number of volunteers. None of these positions require training. Clerks write down scores and fill out ribbons. Head over to Swimtopia, mark your diver's availability and volunteer.
  • If anyone is interested in making labels for our home meets please let me know. It makes the meet run smoother and look more official.

Please let me know if you have any questions, I am normally under the pavilion for our practices.
